i am swept away
by the current
that lies underneath
the water’s surface.

i feel as though
i am drowning,
bubbles fizzling
all around my body.

i hear calls
from up above,
but my hearing sounds
all muffley and hollow.

i have fallen under
the undertow,
desperately trying to
claw my way back up.
